The Login Page
Twins entered the Perception study web site using the link sent to them - the link is not given here as it is no longer active. A dummy version of the welcome/login page is shown below. As shown, twins were given some essential instructions for carrying out the activities, and were provided with a link to the information sheet. They were asked to log in, using the "login code" sent to them. On logging in for the first time, they were taken to the consent page (see below). If a twin logged in subsequently, having already given consent, then logging in would direct them either to the next activity to be completed, or to the feedback page if they had completed the battery.
Perception
Welcome to the perception study!
This is a study about perception and recognition. It should take around 20-25 minutes to complete.
If possible, please make your browser window full screen before continuing (e.g., press F11; this only works for some browsers). If this is not possible, then please maximise your browser window so it fills as much of the screen as possible. You should use a modern web browser with graphics, javascript and cookies enabled, and a screen resolution of at least 1024x768 pixels.
Most of this study is controlled with the keyboard, using the keys shown below.
Please don't use your browser's navigation buttons (forward, back or refresh) during the study, as this could cause you to lose some progress. If you have any technical problems, try closing your browser and logging in again - you will resume from the start of the first incomplete activity. If you have been invited to take part, you should have received a letter giving some information about the study and the rewards on offer. You can also see this information here. When you are ready to start, please enter your login code (from your invitation letter) into the box below, then click 'Begin'.
The Consent Page
A dummy version of the consent page is reproduced below, as it would have appeared to twins after first logging in (note that the input controls do nothing here). To complete the consent form, a twin was required to enter an email address twice, tick the three boxes and then click on the "Next" button. The twin would then be presented with the first Perception study activity.
Each twin was required to complete the consent form once and only once, before being able to continue with the web activities. If a twin logged in but did not complete the consent form, then the consent form would be presented again at the next login. There was no way of by-passing the consent form to continue with the other activities. After a twin had completed the consent form, it would not appear again on subsequent logins.
